Southern Magnolia: Backlit

11×14 acrylic on panel. I had thought of calling this work ‘ The Pollinators Have Arrived’ but it was just too long of a title. I was first drawn to this particular blossom because of the intense fragrance, kind of vanilla and lemons, emanated from it, there were several bees that kept disappearing into the flower every time I tried to get a good look at them. At no other time during the past couple of weeks of observing the magnolias had I seen the pollinators of these flowers. I’m thinking that this flower has arrived, this is probably the culmination of the existence of the flower that is transforming into the next thing that it, indeed is, a seed pod.
